Default Mesmer as a Secondary

Hey Everyone,

I currently play a necro as my main and I really like the different abilities of a mesmer. I have been considering making a mesmer PVE character, but I am wondering if I can use my N/Me with Mesmer builds effectively. The reason I was thinking of doing this is because fast casting seems very effective for PVP but for PVE soul reaping provides excellent energy management and seems a better option for PVE.

Those of you who have a lot of experience with a necro or had done something similiar with a secondary let me know your thoughts.

Thanks,

Eldarion

Basically, the majority of mesmer builds don't function well enough in PvE to warrant copying a build straight into a necro primary. From those that do, most rely on a secondary profession. The skils from the mesmer line that you should really be using on a necro are things like CoP, Arcane Echo, etc.

Thanks for your input. I have been using Arcane Echo to help spam SS and use web of disruption with cry of pain for some damage and interrupts, but I was thinking of using Backfire and Empathy for some damage or using some other shutdown skills, also Visions of Regret seems like it could be more effective than SS.

this is very right, in my guild we use mesmers for Deep and Frostmaw and used to for FoW. the main type of build we would run is fast cast of the secondary, mainly ele for DF and monk for RoJ. the rest being illusion damage, so Cry(not illusion without SoI) and occasionally Wandering Eye. Mesmer's do have their place in PvE, not to be ignored but not always to be taken over other classes every time

Since we're talking PvE - if you really want to feel like a mesmer with a necro primary, just slap Mindbender on your bar - tada, you've got 15 in Fast Casting! It won't reduce signet time like FC, but how many necro signets would somebody really run? Lost Souls?

Then, you just max out your Domination/Illusion and Soul Reaping, you've got insane levels of Fast Casting and insane energy management with Soul Reaping. You're officially a mesmer with a necro primary.
